FAQs
What is Scratching Post Inn?
Scratching Post Inn is a luxury boarding facility that caters exclusively to cats, with cats’ unique needs in mind. We are not a vet clinic or a “cat cafe.”
Can I come in for a tour before deciding to board?
Absolutely! We want you to be comfortable in choosing the Inn. We encourage all of our first-time visitors to come in for a tour! However, this is not mandatory.
How do I make a reservation?
You can make your reservation by following the “Get Started” button on our website or by contacting us at 817-382-2287. You will be asked to provide your cat’s basic information (name, age, gender, appearance) for your pet profile, vaccination records, as well as payment information.
What are the cleaning practices at Scratching Post Inn?
We hold ourselves to the highest cleanliness standards. Our facility is cleaned daily using pet-safe, mild cleaning products, as well as veterinary-approved sanitation products. Litter boxes are cleaned twice daily. Our air is filtered and purified with a top-of-the-line air filtration system. Our rooms are thoroughly cleaned and refreshed with fresh bedding between each stay to ensure your cat feels welcome and safe.
Do I need to bring anything for my cat's stay?
Yes! We encourage you to bring the food and litter your cat is accustomed to. However, we do provide national-brand dry or canned food and litter for your convenience, if you prefer to leave that to us.
You will need to supply any special food and medication your cat requires. We also recommend bringing your cat’s favorite toy and a small item that smells like home. We require proof of vaccination with your reservation.
What if my cat runs out of the food I bring?
Yes. Our staff is experienced with giving at home medications to cats such as pills, transdermal, subcutaneous fluids, and more. You must provide any medication information and instructions at check in. If your cat requires medication administered by a licensed vet, we will provide transportation to and from a local vet. Please discuss these details with us when you make your reservation.
Do you charge extra for staff interaction and play time, or for my cat to free-roam the facility?
We believe most of our guests enjoy exploring and receiving pets and attention from their human companions, and we are focused on making each guest comfortable. Therefore, we include this in our services for no added charge.
Will my cat be let out with other cats?
We only let cats out together if they are from the same household. This is for the safety of all guests and staff, since feline behavior can be unpredictable. Our facility features three separate common areas to allow multiple cats out at a time.
Do you offer a discount if I board two or more cats?
Yes! We offer a discount of $10 off the standard nightly rate when you reserve multiple Townhouses or Luxury Suites. For cats who share a Luxury Suite, the second cat is $25 per night. The Deluxe Luxury Suites accommodate up to three cats, so the second or third cat will be $25 each per night.
Can I visit my cat during their stay?
Absolutely! Clients often board for reasons other than travel, such as while hosting houseguests, staging their home for sale, or having workers in the home for remodeling or maintenance. So, yes, please feel free to schedule visits to stay in touch with your feline companions while they are at the Inn.
When/How do I pay?
A 50% deposit is required for all reservations and is charged within 24 hours of making your reservation. The remaining balance is due at check-in. Deposits are refundable if cancellation is made at least 48 hours prior to check-in. Payments can be made through your client portal, by phone or in person using most credit and debit cards.
Any tips for transporting my cat?
It is best to use a cat carrier. At the minimum, use a harness and leash. We can offer you several tips for selecting a carrier and for getting your cat into the carrier, as they often will resist. We can also offer tips to make the car ride more comfortable. Give us a call if you need help with this.
What if my cat gets sick while at the Inn?
First, we are not a clinic and do not have a veterinarian on staff. The Inn is for healthy cats or those with a chronic condition that is normally managed at home. If your cat has a medical condition that is likely to need veterinary intervention, boarding at a clinic may be a better solution for you, and we are happy to assist you with finding one.
However, if a guest develops symptoms of illness, we will first attempt to contact the owner or the secondary contact. We can arrange transportation to a designated veterinary clinic, per the owner’s instructions. If we cannot reach the owner, or the situation is urgent, we will arrange veterinary care as needed.
